Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. She was born and raised in Barcelona. Her diverse music style has earned her the moniker of "atypical pop star". [9] At the age of 13, she fell in fascination with Spanish folk music and enrolled in musicology at Catalonia College of Music. She also performed at weddings and music bars. It reimagined flamenco, mixing it with pop and hip-hop. The singles "Malamente", and "Pienso in tu Mira" have been a huge hit with the Spanish populace and won widespread critical acclaim. El Mal Querer, who was awarded the Latin Grammy Award as Album of the Year and included in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time, started Rosalia's rise into the international music scene. Rosalia has had ten top one songs in her native country throughout her career. This is the highest number she's ever had an artist from her own country. Two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including 2 Album of the Year wins) and four MTV Video Music Awards and three UK Music Video Awards have been conferred to Rosalia. She also received two Premio Ruido Awards. Billboard presented her with the Rising Star Award, in 2019, for "changing the current sound of mainstream songs by introducing her unique flamenco pop". 18 years ago, she also became the first Spanish-singing group to be nominated for the Best New Artist at Grammys.
Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. Her family has no artistic backgrounds She is the youngest daughter of Pilar Tobella, a businesswoman who owns a small company specialised in metalworks. Her father, Jose Manuel Vila, was born in Cudillero, Asturias. They split in 2019. (23.) Rosalia's older sister Pilar Vila, who was born in 1989, is her stylist. Rosalia began to be interested in performing arts as a child and was particularly interested when she came across the discography by Camaron de La Isla.
